Gor Chahal

Gor Chahal is a visionary. He is the author of many bold theories and amazing practices, the person who proved that the noosphere is transphysically affected by works of art. Chahal never trained in arts formally except as a child – he took drawings classes at the school of Tatiana Kiparisova. In 1985, having graduated from the Moscow Engineering Physics Institute with a degree in applied mathematics Chahal together with the poet Arkady Semenov and the rock-group “Polite Refusal” started a group called “Parallel Actions” which combined rock music and poetry readings. In 1988 he collaborated with the “World Champions” making cheerful unreflective art. When working with visual arts he combines intuition and scientific knowledge and uses high technology, multiple shooting techniques and devices, and digital processing of images. Chahal believes in human interest and has frequently used himself as a model originally posing as a stylish bohemian young man. In the early 2000s he turned a new page and set off on a spiritual quest. He’s been using up-to-date technology to create Christian art – a sort of visual theology with startling, mystically inspired imagery. Sophisticated processing of the photos of his “Fire series” gave them a shiny, almost luminous quality. In “The Architecture of Intelligible World” Chahal tried to explore different religions and find their abstract common denominator. The artist sweeps dusty metaphors clean and revives concepts that have long been defunct or compromised through abuse. His vision of art is that of a service to God, and his ideal is to “develop the concept of beauty as harmony between esthetics and ethics”. A proponent of Christian art, Chahal believes that contemporary art should engage in a dialogue with the Church. He is organizing an exhibition for a group of artists whose focus is, like his own, on the Sacred.
