Our society seems to have split into two civilizations: one existing in today’s reality, the other – in some vague historical past. The latter frequently displays unrestrained hostility – on the street, in the blogosphere, and even in the protected realms of museums. Militant intolerance and hysterical affectation exhibited by representatives of this civilization when dealing with issues of nationality, religion or sexual orientation makes one suspect a profound deformity in their mental processes. It appears that for them there is a pathological link between self-identification and hostility towards those who they perceive as different and wrong. They cannot be themselves unless they are at war with others. In this article we were seeking to define the roots of this pathology and hopefully identify a peaceful solution to the problem.
